Azealia Park

So Rusty the dog decided that since the sun was out and it wasn’t raining it would be a good day to go visit Azealia park.

It was a bit brisk, only about 54 degrees with a light breeze and although the sun was out there was some intermittent rain, it was very light and I doubt that Rusty even noticed it, even though he absolutely detests water.

Just so you know, Rusty staunchly believes that water is only good for drinking, it’s not fun when it gets on you, it’s not fun to walk in and it really sucks to have it poured on you (as in a bath).

The park didn’t have very many visitors while we were there and we only saw one other canine the whole time, but there were still many very interesting things to sniff.

We walked the path that leads to the concert pavilion and I snapped this shot of the Capella along the way.

And this shot of the sun on the grass:

It is a bit difficult to see but in this next shot the cherry trees are beginning to bloom.

In all it was a nice day for a stroll.

Brookings Sport Boat Basin

What a nice Saturday in Brookings.  The sun is shining and it is a ‘balmy’ 54 degrees.

I took the opportunity to go check on my boat and pump out the bilge.

While I was down there I snapped this photo of the nearly completed A dock reconstruction.

A dock was almost completely wiped out by the tsunami of last year.

Here is a shot of the pilings that were removed.

Can you imagine the sheer force required to bend those pilings like that?

The docks are still closed to all but boat owners but they should open up again to the general public once all of the repairs have been completed.

You can see the Port has already allowed some boats to return to A Dock.

In all, it is a great day to be down messing around on the boat.

Sunny and Warm

The last three days have been absolutely beautiful in Brookings.  The thermometer at my house read a high of 65 degrees yesterday with a nearly cloudless sky, and Rusty the dog spent the entire day lounging on the back deck soaking in the sun.

I mowed the lawn on Saturday and cleaned out the fire pit in preparation for spring time evenings around a nice fire in the back yard.

Sunday was not quite as warm, but it was nice enough that I was able to get the green house mucked out and a new floor laid down, all before the big game started.  Now all that remains of that project is to reinstall all of the pots and get our starts for the summer going.  I think for this year we will start some lettuce, broccoli, tomatoes and a variety of herbs. Not to mention the copious flowers my wife likes to grow.

Monday was yesterday, and as I drove over to Brookings, I saw two brave souls out in the water testing their luck at catching a good wave. It’s still a bit chilly for me; I think I’ll wait for warmer water.

Today, Tuesday, it began to rain again, but this time it is a light rain instead of the driving, raining sideways rain we sometimes get during the winter months.  We are hoping to avoid a repeat of the ten inches of rain in two days we had a few weeks ago.

The surf is big again, and we could hear it roaring last night and this morning, which prompted a trip down to the beach to check it out and a side trip to check on the boat.  All is as it should be.

As a reminder, you can easily check the beach, channel bar and the commercial boat basin by pointing your browser to http://www.port-brookings-harbor.com/webcams/port-of-brookings-harbor.  The boys have been hard at work setting up web cameras so our friends who live in other places can have a look at just what is happening with the ocean. (I live here, and I still use the site to check things out.  You should, too.)

So, with overcast skies and a light rain, I bid you good evening.  Come and visit, it is worth the trip.
